To start our journey we intended to go to London Bridge and take a train from there. We soon discovered, however, that because of the current plague of road works, many roads were closed and buses were diverted over a large area, so we ended up walking from the Barbican to London Bridge. This at least provided the opportunity to photograph Ironmongers’ Hall from ground level.

The Ironmongers are one of the Twelve Great City Livery Companies

I have already photographed the Hall (e.g. see A disappointing breakfast and a fine museum) but previously from the Barbican walkway. The Ironmongers’ Company is one of the Great Twelve City Livery Companies (see Livery Company, under ‘Precedence’) and received its Charter in 1463, though the company had existed since at least the 13th century.
