17 years old and the time had finally come to embark on my first adventure to the forests of Cambodia on a conservation project with tour group, Frontier. I prefer to travel independently these days but as my first trip, it was ideal.

So I arrived with a group of near strangers in the humidity of the Phnom Penh night and took my first ‘tuk-tuk’ to the backpacker land of Lakeside -which I instantly fell in love with – but that’s another story.

A few days after landing in Phnom Penh, and we were packed into a minivan for an 8 hour drive to Botum SakorNational Park in convoy with a truck full of all our equipment.
